Community Poems

The five judges favourite poems from our second poetry competition on the theme of ‘Community’ have been unveiled in the waiting room. 22 poems were submitted and have all been published in a book which also features local scenes.

The winning poems were unveiled by the town mayor David Rice-Mundy with some of the poets reading aloud in the waiting room. The Friends were delighted with all the entries and the judges remarked on the extremely high standard of poems.

The exhibition is part of the Play on Words Festival – find out more about local events here: https://www.playonwords.org.uk/

Alongside the exhibition, the Friends are also running a little feature which was so successful last year- Never Judge a Book by Its Cover. The local WI have wrapped the books in plain brown paper and string and with just the first line of the book on the outside. Last year, a passenger contacted the Friends to tell them how cheered she was on entering the waiting room to be welcomed by such a lovely free gift after a dreadful day at work and how it made her feel that there was some good in the world.
